Typically, clip shows face criticism among audiences as a pointless waste of time, or at best viewed as a requirement in television during the period of weekly production. However, this wasn't the case, and Avatar: The Last Airbender showed it via "The Ember Island Players," a beloved segment from its final season now being granted an exclusive Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair collection.

Information regarding the special release

The complete Secret Lair superdrop for the forthcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender edition was revealed earlier this month. This includes five Secret Lairs, and even though a set named "My Cabbages!" is an admittedly amusing nod to the show's beloved recurring figure, the additional releases feel a bit less imaginative, except for one standout: "The Ember Island Players."

Based on episode 17 in the final season of the beloved series, this special set includes the following cards:

The reason this installment remains memorable

Fans of the show warmly cherish this installment, which served as a recap of the protagonist Aang and the group's journey prior to the final episode. Unlike standard summary installments, or compilation episodes, "The Ember Island Players" was not driven due to production constraints or creative challenges. The producers genuinely intended to provide audiences a moment to revisit the show's narrative, but they decided to approach it inventively.

During the installment, the crew watches a theatrical performance depicting their adventures on a stage located on Ember Island, named The Boy in the Iceberg. The play itself is inaccurate, cheesy, and utterly comical. It excels because it plays with the characters' perception about themselves, setting them against with how the world (and especially the Fire Nation citizens) sees them. It possesses the right amount of introspective humor, and it results in perhaps the finest interpretation of Avatar we have had.

Worth and pricing

In terms of value, this represents an excellent Secret Lair for one simple reason: Braid of Fire. This card is valued between $20 and $40 on online marketplaces as of now, while for $29.99 you can acquire the complete collection, or $39.99 for the premium foil treatment.

Magic: The Gathering's Avatar: The Last Airbender collection is available during early access events on Nov. 14 and debuts internationally on Nov. 21.
