Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Loss
Arne Slot admitted that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his position after a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the team's worst streak since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from management,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to change things and earn three points naturally but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I accept my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard conversations we have I feel the belief. However I've not talked to them since this game so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Failings and Player Reaction
Slot highlighted familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a period such as this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones finished, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we will always compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
