New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His family, they’re in good spirits and he is expected to recover fully.”

The coach did not know when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition.

“Still unsure,” the coach said. “However, I can share, from our conversation, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

Authorities shared video stills earlier this week of a man sought in the attack on the player. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and officials stated it’s not clear if Boyd was the intended victim. There were no additional victims were reported.

The shooting happened just after 2am on Sunday about halfway between Madison Square Garden and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has occupied his thinking “a great deal” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his wife just had a newborn.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,” Glenn said. “My mind went to his family, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, I’ll keep private, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd hasn’t played this season, after joining the team, after his season was cut short due to injury on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

Boyd came to New York as a new signing in March and was projected as a significant contributor of an improved special teams group under the coach and ST coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a practice session on early August and was carted from the field.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he attends every game. His commitment is total. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of UT in 2019. He signed with Arizona in 2023 and later was with the Texans after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
