Pep Guardiola has admitted experiencing "embarrassment" following an exchange with a TV crew member in the wake of Manchester City's loss at Newcastle on Saturday.

When the match concluded, an emotional Guardiola entered the St James’ Park pitch and engaged in intense talks with match official Sam Barrott and Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães, and also touched the broadcast crew's equipment.

"I apologised," Guardiola stated. "I feel embarrassed, ashamed, when I see it. It's not acceptable. I apologised after one second to the operator. That's just me. With a thousand matches under my belt I'm far from perfect, I make huge mistakes."

"What is for sure, I defend any team and my club, that’s for sure. The reason why I support my squad is no doubt – based on my career to win the Premier League we need near-perfect totals, high nineties, or we fall short."

City's Position and Manager's Take

The team felt aggrieved that the officials did not award City a penalty for a Fabian Schär challenge against Foden, and doubted if Guimarães was offside when Harvey Barnes scored the decisive strike. Pictures published later indicate the Brazilian was onside.
