The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.

While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a prosperous future away from worry.”

The event, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.

A New Life

This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the festive period,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It captures the character of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”

Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
